Congressman Sherman Updates Residents in 2nd Town Hall of the Year
SHERMAN OAKS, CALIFORNIA – Last night, residents from all over the San Fernando Valley and parts of the Westside of Los Angeles joined Congressman Brad Sherman's (CA-32) second Telephone Town Hall of 2024 to hear updates and voice their thoughts on the many critical issues facing Congress.
Congressman Sherman opened the event by describing the bipartisan tax-cut package that was passed by the House right before the start of the Town Hall meeting. Sherman detailed the provisions in the package, such as the enhancements to the child tax credit for millions of working families and tax breaks for businesses.
A senior Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Sherman also addressed several urgent foreign policy matters, including the rising tensions in the Middle East. Sherman expressed his dismay over the deadly drone attack that claimed the lives of three of our service members and discussed how the U.S. could respond to hold those responsible accountable. The Congressman also provided updates on the ongoing war between the Israeli military and Hamas terrorists, Ukraine's continued resistance to Russia's brutal invasion and countering China's aggressive behavior on the global stage.
Congressman Sherman was joined by special guest LA Unified School Board Member Scott Schmerelson of Board District 3. A lifelong educator,Board Member Schmerelson spoke on his work on behalf of Board District 3 to ensure every student can learn in safe, modern and supportive environments. Mr. Schmerelson also detailed his efforts with Los Angeles Mayor Bass on the issue of homelessness as well as his work with California Governor Gavin Newsom to address the issue of mental health in schools.
During the Telephone Town Hall, Sherman requested input from residents by asking a series of survey questions about their thoughts on the many serious issues facing our nation. The results of some of the survey questions are as follows:
