Sherman Statement on the 23rd Anniversary of the North Valley Jewish Community Center Mass Shooting

Granada Hills, CA -- On August 10, 1999, an avowed white supremacist walked into the North Valley Jewish Community Center in Granada Hills and began a shooting spree he wanted to serve as "a wakeup call to America to kill Jews."

Choosing the location for its light security, he injured five people at the center and murdered a postal service worker of Filipino origin, Joseph Ileto.

"Today we commemorate the anniversary of the tragic North Valley Jewish Community Center shooting that left an indelible mark on our community," said Congressman Brad Sherman. "We honor Joseph Ileto, the survivors and reaffirm our resolve to continue the fight against violence, bigotry and hatred in all its forms."
