Sherman Part of Official Escort Committee for Israeli President Herzog’s Address to Joint Session of Congress

July 20, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On July 19, 2023, Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32) helped welcome Israeli President Isaac Herzog as part of a Congressional Escort Committee for President Herzog's historic address to a Joint Session of Congress.

"It was an honor to escort President Isaac Herzog of Israel to his address to Congress," said Congressman Sherman after the speech. "The room was packed with Members of Congress and Senators - from both sides of the aisle. Make no mistake: the U.S. Congress, both Democrat and Republican alike, stand with Israel."

President Herzog affirmed the U.S.-Israel relationship during his address, calling America "Our greatest partner and friend". "Our bond may be challenged at times, but it is absolutely unbrekable," proclaimed President Herzog.

Sherman, a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, made several observations of President Herzog's speech. "He's right," said Sherman. "We must prevent Iran from building a nuclear weapon."

President Herzog also spoke on the need to bring Saudi Arabia into the Abraham Accords. Sherman agreed but cautioned on the need for necessary safeguards for any nuclear cooperation agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia. "Relaxing nucelar safeguards is not a price we should pay," said Sherman. "We don't need an atomic Abrahamic Arabia".
