Sherman Updates Over 4,000 Residents in 5th Town Hall of the Year
Sherman Oaks, California – Last night, just over 4,000 residents from the San Fernando Valley and parts of the Westside joined Congressman Brad Sherman’s (CA-32) Telephone Town Hall, marking Congressman Sherman’s fifth Town Hall meeting of the year.
“It’s important that I hear directly from my constituents about the challenges they are facing, especially during such a crucial period in our nation’s history,” said Congressman Sherman. “That’s why I continue hosting Telephone Town Halls as they allow me to instantly and directly connect with thousands of my constituents to listen to their thoughts and concerns on all the critical issues that we face together.”
Congressman Sherman started the event with a preview of the challenges Congress will face when it returns for the fall session – averting another looming government shutdown, combating an extremist, MAGA Republican legislative agenda and delivering for the American people during President Joe Biden’s final months in office.
During the call, Congressman Sherman answered live questions from participants who posed questions on a range of issues – from the scourge of gun violence plaguing our communities, to the on-going war in the Middle East. He also provided updates on his recent efforts in Congress, including his work on the House Financial Services Committee to protect consumers, his work on the House Foreign Affairs Committee to support allies such as Armenia, Israel and Ukraine, and on other recent legislative achievements that support for our veterans, provide protection to endangered animals and fund substantial environmental and transportation enhancement projects across our communities.
Congressman Sherman was joined by two special guests: California Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo of California’s 40th State Assembly district, and LA Unified School District Board Member Scott Schmerelson of Board District 3.
Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo, a tireless nurse and labor advocate, provided an update on her recent efforts during the state’s most recent legislative session to address housing, homelessness, healthcare and other important policy areas. Assemblymember Schiavo also discussed her “Click to Cancel” bill, legislation designed to protect consumers by simplifying the cancellation process for subscription services. The Assemblymember concluded her remarks by touching on the substantial investments she has secured for the betterment of our communities.
LAUSD Board Member Scott Schmerelson, a lifelong and dedicated educator, began his remarks by addressing the tragic mass shooting that occurred earlier in the day at a high school in Georgia. Board Member Schmerelson spoke on the steps he and his team are taking to ensure our children enjoy a safe learning environment as a new school year begins.
