[Washington, D.C.] – Congressman Brad Sherman today announced that one million dollars for land acquisition in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area was included in the Omnibus Appropriations Bill just passed by Congress.
"The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is a priceless natural treasure and these funds are needed to protect crucial lands from development," said Sherman. "This bill has passed the Senate and is sure to be signed by the President within days, so we will get these funds."
Congressman Sherman has secured over $18 million for the Santa Monica Mountains since coming to Congress in 1997.
The Santa Monica Mountains are within an hour’s drive for over 19 million people (one in 15 Americans), and are a critically important recreational resource. The beaches and mountains of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area are visited each year by over 40 million people, making it the most visited national park.
