U.S. - India Relationship

As a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, former Chair of the House Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, and as Chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, Sherman has worked to support the United States - India alliance.

Congressman Sherman has been a long-time member of the Caucus on India and Indian Americans, including as the Democratic Co-Chair from 2018 to 2022.

The Caucus is dedicated to promoting and strengthening relations between the United States, the world’s oldest continuous democracy, and India, the world’s largest democracy.

 


Improving Security Ties

As Co-Chair of the India Caucus, Sherman has been working for years to strengthen U.S.-India security cooperation, including his recent amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) expanding defense cooperation with India which passed through the House last year.

Sherman continues to work with the Congressional India Caucus, the Indian Embassy, the Administration, and the Indian American community to strengthen the bonds between the United States and India.
