Supporting Veterans

Sherman is working hard to ensure that our nation's veterans have access to quality health care and benefits, as well as jobs, education, and affordable housing.
Congressman Sherman's voting record has been rated 100% consistent with the policies of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion.
Below are some of Sherman's recent efforts to support our nation's veterans.
Representing the West LA VA Campus

Following the redistricting in 2021 and the election of 2022, Sherman became the Congressman for the newly-drawn 32nd District in California. The 32nd district encompasses parts of the Westside of Los Angeles including the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center.
Sherman maintains a long history of supporting the West LA VA Campus. Most recently, Sherman participated in the groundbreaking of five new residential buildings on the West LA VA campus which will provide an additional 380 units of supportive housing to our veterans, another milestone in L.A.’s most significant project in the effort to end veteran homelessness.
Last Congress, Sherman along with his California House and Senate colleagues helped pass and sign into law the West Los Angeles VA Campus Improvement Act. This law allows the VA to contribute lease revenues generated at the West LA VA campus to the development of supportive housing and services for homeless veterans. Previously, the VA could only use lease proceeds for campus beautification.
Supporting our Veterans, Servicemembers, and Families

We have a moral responsibility to protect those who sacrificed so much to protect us. Last Congress Sherman, along with his fellow House Democrats and the Appropriations Committee, advanced federal spending bills to support our Veterans and their families to ensure they can live healthy, successful lives.
These spending bills provided more than $140 billion to support our veterans including $119 billion for Veterans Medical Care.
