Congressman Brad Sherman Hosts Congressional Delegation to Assess Pacific Palisades Fire Damage & Mobilize Federal Support Without Political Conditions

January 19, 2025

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — On January 18th, Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32) led a group of Members of Congress to survey the devastation of the Pacific Palisades fire and concluded with a press conference to underscore the urgency of mobilizing federal disaster relief.

The event served as part of Congressman Sherman’s broader efforts to rally support for federal disaster relief in the wake of the worst wildfires in Los Angeles history.  “Directly witnessing the sheer destruction of the Palisades Fire makes it painfully clear: the need for federal disaster relief is undeniable,” said Congressman Sherman.

“Our neighbors have lost homes, livelihoods, and a sense of security. This is not the time to set dangerous precedents by politicizing disaster relief. This is the time for Congress to come together and do what it has always done in such moments of tragedy - put politics aside and deliver relief. Every American deserves the assurance that their government will be there in times of need — no strings attached.”

In the subsequent press conference, Sherman highlighted his ongoing efforts to secure federal funding for wildfire prevention, emergency preparedness, and community resilience in the face of perhaps the worst fire disaster in U.S. history.

Sherman concluded by encouraging residents to remain engaged with his office to ensure they stay informed of the most accurate information and of the federal assistance resources that are available to fire victims.

"The Pacific Palisades fire is a stark reminder of the growing risks posed by wildfires across California and the nation,” Sherman said.

“Congress must take these threats seriously by committing resources not just to recovery but to prevention and mitigation. I thank my colleagues for joining me today and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure Los Angeles has the resources it needs—not just to recover from this fire but to protect against future disasters.”

Members of Congress who joined the event: Senator Adam Schiff (CA), Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-28), Congressman Ted Lieu (CA-36), Congressman George Whitesides (CA-27), Congresswoman Julia Brownley (CA-26), Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) and Congresswoman Norma Torres (CA-35).
