Congressman Brad Sherman’s Statement on Hamas’ Horrific Assault on Israel

We do not yet know the full extent of the horrors perpetuated against Israeli civilians by Hamas terrorists, and we will likely learn of further war crimes by Hamas as new information surfaces in the coming hours and days. But what we've already seen are some of the most horrific images imaginable: elderly women slaughtered while waiting at a bus stop; dozens, including children, young women, and the elderly, kidnapped and taken into the Gaza strip; bodies of the dead desecrated and paraded around. The death toll has already reached 200 and is likely to continue to rise. Let's be clear - those apologizing for Hamas are apologizing for war crimes and pogroms against Jews in the 21st century.

These events are unshakeable proof of why U.S. support for Israel's security is paramount. A strong Israel is what stands in between everyday people and bloodthirsty terrorist groups intent on killing as many civilians as possible. That has never been more clear than it is today.

These attacks, which are funded by Iran, should make it clear to leaders in Riyadh why they must move forward on normalizing with Israel. It is evident that Iran and its proxies, such as Hamas, are emboldened and more determined than ever to exert chaos in the region.

Some may say that Israel defending itself against this assault will damage the prospects of normalization between Israel and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. However, I don't think Riyadh wants to base its political decisions on the actions of Iranian-backed Hamas.
