Congressman Brad Sherman Statement on the Fourth Anniversary of the January 6th Attack
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32) released the following statement to mark the fourth anniversary of the January 6th, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol:
“Today marks four years since the horrific attack on our U.S. Capitol — a day that shook the foundations of our democracy. On January 6th, 2021, our nation witnessed an unprecedented assault on the very heart of our democratic process as insurrectionists sought to overturn the results of a free and fair election through violence and intimidation.
We remember and honor the courage of the Capitol Police and all law enforcement officers who defended the Capitol and the peaceful transfer of power that day. Their bravery and dedication will never be forgotten.
The events of January 6, 2021, underscored the fragility of democracy and served as a sobering reminder of the vigilance and commitment to truth required to safeguard our democratic institutions.
In the years since, we have made strides in defending our institutions and holding accountable those who sought to subvert them. However, the work of protecting our democracy is far from over.
As we reflect on this somber anniversary, let us recommit ourselves to the ideals of democracy, the rule of law, and the peaceful transfer of power. Let us remember that what unites us as Americans is far greater than what divides us. Together, we can ensure that the promise of democracy endures for generations to come.”
