Congressman Brad Sherman Statement on Trump’s New Palisades Fire Executive Order

January 27, 2026

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA – Today, Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32), who represents Pacific Palisades, issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s Executive Order, regarding rebuilding after the Palisades wildfire:

“Pursuant to action taken by President Biden and at least not rescinded by President Trump, the federal government is providing $7 billion to California, including well over half the cost of rebuilding Palisades High School.

But Trump is doing everything to avoid spending a penny. Under Biden, there were supplemental appropriations to help the people hurt by Hurricane Ida, Hurricane Ian, the Maui fires, Hurricane Helene, and Hurricane Milton.

Under Trump, there has been no supplemental appropriation to help the victims of Texas, Florida, the Eaton Fire, or the Palisades Fire, or any of the disasters that occurred in 2025. Not one penny.

The President issues an executive order which is clearly unconstitutional and a nullity as an excuse for not providing a supplemental appropriation, which would put money in the pockets of uninsured disaster victims.
