Congressman Sherman Hosts Telephone Town Hall on 1 Year Anniversary of the Biden Administration

January 21, 2022

Sherman Oaks – Last night, on the one-year anniversary marking the start of the Biden administration, over 6,000 Valley residents participated in Congressman Brad Sherman's (D-Sherman Oaks) live "Telephone Town Hall". The Congressman reviewed with Valley residents the progress achieved during the past year, while also discussing the challenges that lie ahead.

"I've held over 200 Town Halls over the years, and they have always been a regular part of my outreach to Valley residents," said Congressman Sherman. "As we complete a historic first year under President Biden and enter into a second year with a host of challenges that we must confront, Telephone Town Halls allow me to easily and safely interact with thousands of Valley residents, keeping them informed during this critical time for our country."

Congressman Sherman detailed first-year achievements such as the historic bipartisan infrastructure legislation and its impact for Valley residents, efforts to reverse Trump-era policies, and other significant accomplishments all while combating an unprecedented global pandemic. The Congressman also outlined the road of challenges that our country is set to face as we proceed into the second year of the Biden administration, and heard from Valley residents on which challenges they would like to see prioritized by the administration and Congress such as protecting voting rights, combating inflation, and reversing climate change.

California State Senator Henry Stern also joined the telephone town hall and provided information on his constituent services team and their efforts serving Valley residents during a critical period for our community. The Senator detailed the assistance his team has provided regarding unemployment benefits, employment development programs, efforts to address homelessness, resources and information on pandemic assistance, and other vital services for Valley residents.

Renowned COVID expert, member of the National Academy of Medicine and advisor to the CDC Dr. Lynn Goldman joined the Congressman to answer questions and concerns on the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Goldman discussed the necessity and efficacy of COVID booster shots, provided updated information on the Omicron variant and best practices to keep safe. Dr. Goldman has joined Congressman Sherman for multiple telephone town halls, helping to equip Valley residents with the most accurate information during this once-in-a-lifetime pandemic.

During the Telephone Town Hall, Sherman requested input from Valley residents by asking a series of survey questions about their thoughts on the first year of the Biden administration and the challenges that lie ahead. The results of the survey questions are as follows:

1) After 1 year in office, do you approve of President Biden's performance as president so far?

  • Approve: 64%
  • Disapprove: 18%
  • Unsure: 18%

2) As we head into year two of the Biden Admin, which issue would you like prioritized by the Biden Admin and Congress?

  • COVID-19: 16%
  • Protect and Restore Voting Rights: 51%
  • Inflation: 21%
