"The Sepulveda Basin is a wonderful park used by people from all over the Valley. I'm proud to have obtained federal funds to improve the Basin in prior years, and again today," said Congressman Sherman. "The signing of these priorities into law will now allow us to support the efforts of dedicated leaders like Mayor Garcetti as we work hard to enhance the lives of our residents and the future of our communities."

"Representative Sherman has always been the tip of the spear when it comes to fighting for federal funding that invests in our communities directly," said Mayor Eric Garcetti. "Thanks to his tireless advocacy, the City will be able to make much needed improvements to several of our most beloved city parks and community spaces – enhancing the quality of people's lives, promoting healthier futures, and creating new opportunities for our residents."

The $3 million in funding, requested and obtained by Congressman Sherman, will be used for a community room and ranger station with public restrooms and are part of a larger, 30-acre project that will include construction of four multi-purpose sports fields, lighting, irrigation, stadium/bleacher seating, concessions, paths, and native landscaping.

Active transportation connections to the Metro G (formerly Orange) Line and National Park Service trail system (designated along LA River) will also be constructed to accommodate expanded public recreational use on approximately 30 acres west of the existing Sepulveda Basin Sports Complex.
