Congressman Sherman Presents Over $1 Million in Federal Funds to TreePeople for Greening Efforts

NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA -- On February 24th, Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32) joined TreePeople, one of the largest environmental organizations headquartered in Southern California, at their annual "Fruit Tree Adoption" event and presented a check for over $1 million in federal funding that he secured in order to help support efforts by TreePeople to protect and preserve our local environment.
"Great to partner with TreePeople to distribute free trees in Northridge," said Congressman Sherman. "Greening our community has been a priority of mine, which is why I worked to secure over $1 million in federal funding for TreePeople to carry out this important mission."
Founded in 1973, TreePeople has inspired, engaged, and supported more than 3 million people to take action for our environment by planting and caring for trees in forests, mountains, parks, and our neighborhoods. Through on-the-ground research and educational programs, TreePeople shares knowledge with policymakers, students and educators, and communities around the world.
TreePeople saves 26,000 bare-root fruit trees and distributes them to tribal communities and low-income families in their "Fruit Tree Adoption" event that attracts a variety of volunteers, from local community members to groups, businesses and government representatives.
