Congressman Sherman & President Biden Commemorate LA Infrastructure Project
Sherman Calls for Connecting San Fernando Valley & Westside of LA through Sepulveda Pass
Los Angeles, CA – Today Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) joined President Joe Biden in Los Angeles at the Purple (D Line) Extension Transit Construction Event to highlight the value the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is providing for our city and community.
"I'm pleased to help welcome President Biden to Los Angeles, and to the Purple Line construction site – a vivid example of how the historic bipartisan infrastructure law is delivering for our community," said Congressman Sherman. "I'm proud to have worked with my colleagues and the President to pass this historic bill and I appreciated the opportunity to talk with President Biden on building on this achievement with continued transportation improvement projects our city needs, including Rail through the Sepulveda Pass to connect the Purple Line with the San Fernando Valley."
Congressman Sherman has long championed many transportation improvement projects, empowering the City of Los Angeles with federal funds to be able to resurface over 16 miles of roadway throughout the city. Sherman's current transportation improvement initiative involves connecting west Los Angeles with the San Fernando Valley through the Sepulveda Pass. This venture would greatly improve another long-time Sherman priority: reducing congestion on the 405-freeway, the busiest highway interchange in the United States carrying more than 370,000 vehicles a day.
Over the years, Congressman Sherman has successfully secured federal funds to alleviate congestion on the 405-freeway, including achieving a substantial expansion project for an additional northbound lane. Rail through the Sepulveda Pass connecting to the Purple Line would bolster efforts to increase capacity and alleviate congestion on the 405 freeway.
Sherman concluded: "With the 405-freeway standing as the busiest interstate in the country, alleviating congestion in the Sepulveda Pass is a priority for the residents of the San Fernando Valley, Southern California, and our national infrastructure. I look forward to continuing working with the President and my colleagues on delivering for our communities."
