Congressman Sherman Statement on the 4th Anniversary of the Tree of Life Synagogue Shooting

October 27, 2022

Today marks the 4-year anniversary of the Tree of Life shooting – the deadliest act of antisemitic violence in American history. On this day in 2018, a man radicalized by antisemitic conspiracy theories online walked into Pittsburgh's Tree of Life synagogue and opened fire, murdering 11 worshippers while shouting "all Jews must die."

As we commemorate the victims who lost their lives to hate that day, we must acknowledge that this horrific act was inspired by antisemitic conspiracy theories like ones repeated over the last several weeks. Hateful speech that seeks to denigrate the Jewish people and blame them for society's ills has violent consequences. I urge all those who oppose hatred and bigotry to rededicate themselves today to speaking out against antisemitism.
