September 8, 2022

Sherman Oaks, CA – Last night, over 3,000 Valley residents joinedCongressman Brad Sherman's (D-Sherman Oaks)seventh Telephone Town Hall of 2022 to share their views and to learn more on the critical issues facing the nation.

"It's been an incredibly eventful and productive summer in Congress as my Democratic colleagues and I have worked to deliver on our commitment to combat inflation, lower costs for working families, and act boldly on climate," said Congressman Sherman. "Last night's town hall provided me the opportunity to present the facts surrounding these achievements and what they will mean for Valley residents and families. This is why I continue to host these Telephone Town Halls as they allow me to effectively keep my constituents informed during such significant junctures in our country's history."

Thousands of residents from all over the Valley tuned in to listen to Congressman Sherman detail how he and his Democratic colleagues passed a series of substantial legislative breakthroughs on gun safety, climate change, healthcare, and tax reform in the past few months. Sherman was meticulous in his breakdown of these historic bills, making sure to address any concerns raised by constituents who were on the line, and dispel any inaccurate or disingenuous misinformation propagated by Republicans and their allies.

Sherman was joined by two distinguished local elected officials who assisted the Congressman in addressing constituents' questions and concerns on a range of issues.

Majority Leader of the California State Senate Robert "Bob" Hertzberg(Senate District 18) joined the event and provided a comprehensive update on his efforts addressing urgent state matters. Senator Hertzberg discussed his statewide plan for more efficient water-conservation standards, recently passed by the state legislature, in response to the drought crisis in California.

The Senator also explained his work to reduce energy costs through more efficient access, promote ways residents in need can obtain health coverage, and other measures the Senator will be pushing as we head towards the end of this year.

Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman (City Council District 4) made her first appearance at a Sherman Town Hall and described her recent work serving residents of the San Fernando Valley and the City of Los Angeles. Councilmember Raman started by addressing the current record-breaking heat wave that has engulfed the entire state and provided information on the resources available, such as local cooling centers or city pools, for those who are suffering from such dangerous temperatures.

The Councilmember also discussed some of her efforts on more long-term issues, such as her office's work on homelessness; reducing the size and number of homelessness encampments throughout the district, her team's outreach efforts to those experiencing homelessness and other innovative approaches her office has employed to help solve this important challenge that our community faces.

During the Telephone Town Hall, Sherman requested input from Valley residents by asking a series of survey questions about their thoughts on the many serious issues facing our nation. The results of some of the survey questions are as follows:
