Governor Bill Richardson to Testify on Donald Trump-Kim Jong-un Summit – Tuesday 10:15 AM
Congressman Brad Sherman, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, today announced that Bill Richardson, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Governor of New Mexico, will testify before the Subcommittee on February 26th.
The hearing, entitled “On the Eve of the Summit: Options for U.S. Diplomacy on North Korea,” will preview the Donald Trump-Kim Jong-un summit in Hanoi, Vietnam taking place on February 27th-28th. Along with Governor Richardson, the Subcommittee will also hear testimony from Dr. Victor Cha, a senior advisor and Korea Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
“So far negotiations with North Korea have not made us safer. In fact, North Korea is expanding its nuclear arsenal by as many as 8 bombs since the Singapore summit in June of last year,” said Chairman Sherman. “I look forward to hearing Governor Richardson and Dr. Cha’s ideas on how we can begin to see tangible progress.”
Along with the nuclear issue, the hearing will also focus on the human rights situation in North Korea and how the United States can best coordinate with allies like South Korea and Japan.
The hearing will be held in Room 2172 of the Rayburn House Office Building on February 26th at 10:15 AM. It is open to all media outlets.
