Sherman Celebrates the Respect for Marriage Act Being Signed into Law
Washington, D.C. – Today, President Biden signed into law H.R. 8404, the Respect for Marriage Act. With President Biden's signature, the Respect for Marriage Act will immediately repeal the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act and ensure critical protections for same-sex and interracial marriages at the federal level. This will be the first major LGBTQ+ civil rights bill signed into law since the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010.
Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA) celebrated this historic law's passage and being signed into law: As a Member of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Eqaulity Caucus, I'm proud to have cosponsored and to have voted for the passage of the Respect For Marriage Act to protect and respect the sanctity of same-sex and interracial marriages across the nation. No one should be discriminated against because of who they love."
