Sherman Commemorates Transgender Day of Visibility

March 31, 2023

International Transgender Day of Visibility is a time to celebrate the transgender community. It is also a time to both raise awareness of the discrimination and violence the community still faces and recognize the bravery of the transgender community as it fights for equal dignity and rights despite these attacks.

"Trans Day Of Visibility is more than recognizing the right of trans people to exist, but elevating trans voices as they fight for basic human rights across the country and around the world," said Congressman Brad Sherman. "As a member of the Congressional Equality Caucus, I stand with the trans community today and every day."

International Transgender Day of Visibility began in 2009 to honor the achievements and contributions of the transgender community. Each year, more and more transgender people come forward to bravely tell their stories and push for full equality under the law.

Transgender people are also increasingly serving as public servants across the country. Currently, there are at least 18 transgender, gender-nonconforming, or nonbinary elected officials in state legislatures, and eight states have at least one transgender or gender-nonconforming jurist on the bench. Transgender people are in every profession and every community and have contributed to all aspects of society.
