Sherman Condemns Anti-Semitic Vandalism Targeting the Hebrew Discovery Center in Woodland Hills

July 17, 2019

Sherman Oaks –Congressman Sherman condemned the vandalism that targeted the Hebrew Discovery Center in Woodland Hills and calls on law enforcement to find those responsible.

On the morning of July 14th, vandals splattered white paint over the synagogue entrance before fleeing the site. The American Jewish Committee (AJC) of Los Angeles alerted community members of the vandalism.

"This is a hate crime," Sherman said, "We have seen an increase around the country in anti-Semitic incidents, and those responsible should be brought to justice and be fully prosecuted."

This is not the first time that the Hebrew Discovery Center has been targeted. The sanctuary was targeted with vandalism in 2016 and an intruder entered the synagogue in 2018, threatening to kill families.

"I am urging local law enforcement and the FBI to increase their efforts to combat the targeting of places of worship, schools, and community centers in the San Fernando Valley," Sherman said.
