Washington, D.C. – Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA), a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has been elected Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation by his Democratic colleagues on the Committee.

Congressman Sherman will be serving with Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV), Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Rep. Ami Bera (D-CA), Rep. Andy Levin (D-MI) and Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-D).

The Subcommittee will focus on negotiations with North Korea, economic relations with China, the humanitarian and human rights crises facing the Rohingya of Burma, the Uighurs of western China, and supporting democracy throughout the region. The Subcommittee will also work to prevent the spread of dangerous nuclear and missile technologies, including through more effective restraints on nuclear trade with countries seeking nuclear power as a potential military hedge, such as Saudi Arabia.
