Sherman-Financial Services Dems Sound Alarm on Elon Musk's Attack Against Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

February 12, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32), senior Member of the House Financial Services Committee, issued the following statement after delivering remarks at the headquarters of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in defense of the agency in response to Elon Musk attempting to shut down the CFPB:

"In 2012, I was proud to be among the leaders behind the formation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau– but now, I joined Rep. Maxine Waters and my House Financial Services Committee colleagues to protest against the Musk takeover of this vital consumer protection agency. In the only 13 years since its founding, the CFPB has been a crucial pillar in our fight to protect everyday consumers from bad actors and maintain a competitive financial system."
