Sherman Presents $3 Million in Federal Funds at Studio City Rec Center Groundbreaking Ceremony

Studio City, California – Today, Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32) joined a groundbreaking ceremony for the “Studio City Recreation Center” at Beeman Park – a staple of the Studio City community for over 70 years – where the Congressman presented a check for $3 million in federal funds that he secured to help transform the existing gymnasium into a state-of-the-art recreation and community center. Congressman Sherman was joined by other local leaders and dignitaries, including Los Angeles Councilmember Nithya Raman (District 4) and Los Angeles Council President Paul Krekorian (District 2).

"Now more than ever, neighbors should have more places to be able to come together and foster a stronger, healthier and more connected neighborhood," said Congressman Sherman. "That's why I'm proud to have secured this investment that will help modernize this facility into a vibrant communal hub, providing recreational and community services for all ages."
Built in 1952 and located in Studio City’s “Beeman Park”, the Studio City Recreation Center has been long overdue for an upgrade. Congressman Sherman secured a federal community project funding grant to construct a modern gymnasium and adjoining community center, along with landscaping improvements and tree-planting. Construction will begin at the end of August 2024.
The project is one of the city’s first Net-Zero Energy buildings, as outlined in Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’“Sustainable City Plan”.
In addition to the $3 million in funding for the gymnasium/community center, Congressman Sherman also secured $4 million for improvements to the sports fields at local parks, including improvements to the adjacent ballfield at “Beeman Park”. Enhancements will include upgrading the ballfields’ lighting to improve both park safety and energy efficiency.
Other parks receiving this funding, and these improvements include:
- The Balboa Sports Center in the Sepulveda Basin
- The Lanark Recreation Center in Canoga Park
- The VanNuys/Sherman Oaks Recreation Center
