Sherman Reacts to Fatal Shooting in West Hills

April 3, 2023

West Hills, Los Angeles -- One person was killed and three others were injured during a shooting in West Hills at a shopping center near Fallbrook Avenue and Vanowen Street. Two firearms were recovered at the scene, according to police. Witnesses recalled hearing sudden gunfire and people screaming, asking for someone to call 911. Some believe it was a drive-by shooting.

"Gut wrenching news right here in our community," said Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32) in reaction to the news. "My thoughts are with the the victims and their loved ones as I am closely monitoring the situation."

Police confirmed there is no threat to the West Hills community. The parking lot remained blocked off Saturday evening as police continued its investigation.

Sherman concluded:"As we learn more about this tragedy one thing remains clear: senseless and tragic gun violence can erupt anywhere - especially right here at home, as we sadly saw today. We MUST act and refuse to accept this looming threat as a normal part of life."
