Washington, D.C. – In a hearing before the House Committee on Science, Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm acknowledged the Department of Energy's duty to clean up contaminated sites, including the Santa Susana Field Lab. In response to questioning by Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks), Secretary Granholm said Santa Susana Field Lab cleanup "is a priority" and acknowledged the lack of compliance with past cleanup commitments.

During a House Committee on Science hearing in June of 2019, Congressman Sherman secured a commitment from then-Secretary of Energy Rick Perry that he would personally visit the contaminated site. Secretary Perry visited the Santa Susana Field Lab that September.

In 2020, Congressman Sherman requested funds for the full cleanup of the site and worked with his colleagues to secure language through the House Energy and Water Subcommittee instructing the Department of Energy to move forward expeditiously on the remediation effort and to comply with the 2010 Administrative Order.
