Sherman Statement on Jerusalem Synagogue Attack

January 27, 2023

Washington, D.C. -- Israeli police say at least seven people were killed and three were injured in a shooting near a synagogue in Jerusalem in what police chief Yaakov Shabtai described as "one of the worst terror attacks in the past few years."

"Horrified and outraged to learn that, yet again, an act of Palestinian terrorism has stolen the lives of innocent Israeli civilians - this time, at least 7 attending Shabbat services," said Congressman Brad Sherman. "Equally horrifying are images of militants handing out sweets to 'celebrate' this evil act."

Sherman continued: "This heinous attack is a somber reminder of the threats Israel faces and the importance of unwavering U.S. support for Israel's right to defend against terrorism, including through continued military aid. The U.S. will always stand with our ally, Israel."
