Sherman Statement on Monterey Park Gun Violence Tragedy
January 23, 2023
Worst Act of Gun Violence in L.A. County History since 2008
Monterey Park, California -- Thousands were out and about celebrating the start of Lunar New Year festivities Saturday night when a gunman opened fire in a dance hall, leaving 10 people dead and 10 more injured - the fifth American mass shooting in 2023, and the deadliest since the Uvalde elementary school massacre in May 2022.
"Our hearts break for the victims in Monterey Park whose joyous celebration of the Lunar New Year ended in disaster by a horrendous act of gun violence," said Congressman Brad Sherman of California's 32nd Congressional District. "We mourn the victims and remain committed to achieving real action on gun safety."
