SHERMAN STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT’S SPACE PROGRAM PROPOSAL
[Sherman Oaks, CA] -- Below is the statement of Congressman Brad Sherman on the President's proposal for manned exploration of the moon and mars. Sherman serves on the House Science Committee and its Subcommittees on Space and Aeronautics, and on Research. Sherman's district includes Boeing/Rocketdyne in Canoga Park.
"If we are going to have an all-out science research and development program, energy independence should take precedence," said Congressman Brad Sherman, who represents a district that could benefit greatly from new NASA funding.
"It would be great some day to have astronauts in a rover on Mars. But just about anyone except an oil company executive would say its more important to have 50 million solar powered vehicles in the United States."
"What is needed is an all-out science project to get vehicles off of gasoline, rather than off of the earth."
