Sherman to Honor Army Reservists

December 3, 2005

VAN NUYS - Congressman Brad Sherman on Saturday saluted more than 50 soldiers of the 311th Corps Support Command Army Reserve unit based in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.

œI am grateful for the service and sacrifices made by citizen soldiers called up for active duty, Sherman said.

Sherman participated in a Welcome Home Warrior-Citizen awards program in Van Nuys.

He presented a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol to Major General Paul Mock, the former commanding general of the 311th COSCOM. Command Sgt. Maj. Michele Jones, the highest ranking enlisted member of the Army Reserve and the first woman to hold this position, also participated in the ceremony.

The award program was established to honor soldiers deployed to the Middle East after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
