Sherman Updates Valley Residents on Inflation, Ukraine crisis, COVID-19 & More in 5th Town Hall of 2022

April 28, 2022

Sherman Oaks, CA – Last night, Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) hosted his fifth live Telephone Town Hall of 2022 where he continued his tradition of keeping Valley residents informed on the critical issues facing Congress, such as efforts to combat inflation, assist Ukraine, emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and more.

"We've faced a multitude of issues together as a nation and community," said Congressman Sherman. "It's not only my responsibility to work in Congress to solve such issues on behalf of Valley residents, but to also keep them informed and listen to their concerns on the many critical issues we face together. Telephone Town Halls allow me to instantly and safely fulfill this obligation to many Valley residents who I am proud to represent."

Congressman Sherman covered a range of issues the United States currently faces at home and abroad. Sherman discussed some of the recent federal funding he secured for community projects throughout the San Fernando Valley, as well as his efforts to combat the current rise of inflation and to ease the burden it has placed on working Valley residents and families. The Congressman also touched upon recent pieces of legislation he has introduced on behalf of hard-working Valley residents such as his Tax Filing Simplification Act, a bill he recently introduced with Senator Elizabeth Warren, that would make it dramatically easier for people to fill out their tax returns.

As a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Sherman also detailed the United States' current challenges abroad. The Congressman provided updates on efforts to assist Ukraine against continued Russian aggression, to compel countries like Saudi Arabia to increase oil production, and to counteract challenges posed by China.

As our country grapples with the rise of a new variant, shifting guidances on masks and other fast-moving bits of information on COVID-19, Dr. Lynn Goldman, renowned epidemiologist and advisor to the CDC, joined Congressman Sherman to help provide clarity and guidance for Valley residents. Dr. Goldman detailed best practices to keep safe as we begin to emerge from the pandemic and resume normal activities, answered questions and concerns regarding boosters, and provided updates regarding vaccine availability for children. This was the seventeenth Sherman Town Hall that Dr. Goldman has joined where she continued to be an invaluable source for the most accurate information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the Telephone Town Hall, Sherman requested input from Valley residents by asking a series of survey questions about their thoughts on the many critical issues facing our nation. The results of some of the survey questions are as follows:

  1. Do you approve of President Biden's performance as President so far?
  • Approve: 71%
  • Disapprove: 20%
  • Unsure: 8%

  1. Are you willing to get a COVID-19 booster about every six months if recommended by public health officials?
  • Willing: 69%
  • Not Willing: 17%
  • Unsure: 15%
