Sherman Urges HUD to Reform Veteran Income Calculation

January 11, 2024

Washington, D.C. - Today the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing with Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Marcia Fudge. Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32) urged Secretary Fudge and HUD to reform regulations to allow disabled veterans to qualify for supportive housing programs.

"I can't think of anything more shameful than a homeless disabled veteran that lost a limb, defending us, and is now on the streets," said Congressman Sherman.

Congressman Sherman will continue to pressure HUD to exclude from its definition of annual income, any service-connected disability payments received by veterans, so that a disabled veteran will be eligible for the housing built for them.
