"We Remember" -- International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2023
Statement by Congressman Brad Sherman
"To forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second time." – Elie Wiesel Yet on this International Holocaust Remembrance Day, less than half of Americans know how many Jews were killed in the Holocaust. As we take today to memorialize and mourn the 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazi regime, and as antisemitism and ethnic hatred is on the rise around the world, we must reprioritize Holocaust education.
That's why today, I joined with congressman Josh Gottheimer to introduce the Holocaust Education and Antisemitism Lessons (HEAL) Act to make sure that the memory of the victims of the Holocaust, and the lessons of this devastating tragedy, are never forgotten.
