UNEMPLOYMENT DUE TO COVID-19
What benefits are Valley Residents eligible for if they've been laid off or lost hours because of COVID-19? Those workers can apply for unemployment insurance through the Employment Development Department (E.D.D.), which has waived the usual one week waiting period.
If you're a parent whose child's school has been cancelled, what options do you have for taking leave from work? Beginning April 2 through December 31, under the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act, eligible employees can receive 10 paid sick days and up to 12 weeks of extended leave when a parent cannot work due to the closure of a child's school or child care due to COVID-19.
How do you apply for benefits through the State? Here is a checklist of all the information needed to apply. You can apply for unemployment insurance online hereor by mailing/faxing the application to the Employment Development Department (Spanish version here).

HEALTH INSURANCE AFFECTED BY COVID-19
Anyone who is uninsured and meets eligibility requirements for health care coverage through Covered California can sign up in the new open enrollment period through June 30, 2020. This is an important step to ensure Californians who lose coverage through an employer, who are otherwise uninsured, have the opportunity to enroll in coverage.

PARENTS OF LAUSD STUDENTS
Superintendent Austin Beutner announced on March 23rd that Los Angeles Unified School District students and teachers will remain out of their classrooms until at least May 1st.
Los Angeles Unified will continue to provide nutritious meals to all students in need during the temporary closure of schools. Grab & Go food centers will be open from Wednesday, March 18 and will be availble from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. - 10 a.m. To find the nearest "Grab & Go" food center to you, click here

FOOD ASSISTANCE
California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) is a cash aid program for low income families to meet their basic needs. It also provides education, employment, and training programs to help families get jobs and move towards self-sufficiency.
