Sherman Condemns anti-Semitic chants at University of Michigan
Shock and outrage permeated throughout the nation over a recent anti-Israel rally put on by pro-Palestinian protestors at the University of Michigan. Clips of the protest depicted marchers, chanting "Intifada, Intifada! Long live the Intifada" a call to violent overthrow of the Jewish state inspired by Palestinian riots and rebellions against Israel in the late 80s, early 90s, and early 2000s. "There is only one solution!" a female marcher was seen chanting, as the crowd behind her responded, "Intifada! Revolution!"
"We're outraged by the chants calling for a violent intifada and demanding 'Zionists have got to go' by SJP at the University of Michigan," tweeted ADL (Anti-Defamation League) CEO Jonathan Greenblatt. "Let's be clear: this is a direct call to violence and the university must investigate this as a possible violation of Jewish students' rights under Title VI."
Congressman Brad Sherman echoed Mr. Greenblatt's concerns: "Actions like this are a thinly veiled attempt to push Jewish students out of campus life. This also serves as a stark example of why it's so important to utilize the IHRA definition of antisemitism when investigating acts of bigotry like this one."
