U.S. - Armenia Relationship
Washington, D.C. – Azerbaijan's aggression towards Armenia, including the shelling of 3 towns within Armenia's internationally recognized border, is an outrage. The U.S. must enforce Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act and cease military sales to Azerbaijan immediately.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House voted to adopt an amendment led by Congressman Tony Cárdenas (D-CA) and Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA) as part of the annual defense authorization bill. The amendment calls for an investigation into Azerbaijani war crimes that were committed against Armenians in Artsakh.

I stand in solidarity with the Armenian American community in commemorating the February 1988 Sumgait Pogroms. Thirty-four years ago, in the Azerbaijani town of Sumgait, Azerbaijani mobs targeted and assaulted peaceful Armenian residents on the basis of their ethnicity and endured unspeakable crimes. The violence left hundreds of Armenian civilians dead and injured, women and girls were raped, some victims were burned alive, and thousands were forced to flee their homes.

Washington, D.C. – The House voted to adopt an amendment offered by Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks), Congressman Tony Cardenas (D-CA) and Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) as part of the annual defense authorization bill. The amendment calls for Azerbaijan's immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war and for an investigation into the actions by Turkey and Azerbaijan during their 2020 attacks against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

Today, on the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, President Joe Biden became the first U.S. President to formally recognize the systematic murder of 1.5 million Armenian women, men, and children by the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923, as a genocide.
I commend President Biden's historic announcement today. The President's courageous move has put the United States on the side of historic truth in a most powerful way.
Washington, D.C. – TodayCongressman Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks), Congressman T.J. Cox (D-CA), Congressman Jim Costa (D-CA) and Congresswoman Katherine Clark (D-MA) called on the Trump administration to impose significant, tangible consequences on those responsible for Azerbaijan's continuous campaign of aggression against the people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
Washington (December 11, 2019) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA) today introduced the Preventing the Spread of Nuclear Weapons Act, legislation that would require the U.S.
Washington, DC – The House passed Congressman Brad Sherman's amendment that prohibits the transfer of U.S. weapons to Azerbaijan unless the President certifies no threat to civil aviation. The initiative aims to limit Baku's ability to act upon its standing threat to shoot down civilian aircraft operating out of Artsakh's Stepanakert Airport.
I stand in solidarity with the Armenian American community in commemorating the February 1988 Sumgait Pogroms. Thirty-one years ago in the Azerbaijani town of Sumgait, peaceful Armenian residents were brutally targeted on the basis of their ethnicity and subjected to unspeakable crimes. In March 1988, The Economist reported the atrocities and documented the murder and mutilation of pregnant Armenian women and newborn babies in a maternity hospital.
I have been informed that Turkish flags have been posted outside and inside of the Holy Martyrs Ferrahian High School, and other Armenian schools and churches in Southern California.
I strongly condemn this hateful act of vandalism. It is particularly cruel to those whose family members died in the Armenian Genocide.
I call on law enforcement to make arresting the vandals a high priority.
These incidents may constitute a violation of federal hate-crimes statutes. See 18 U.S.C. Section 247.
