[Washington, D.C.] " Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA), a member of the House Financial Services Committee, announced today his sponsorship of H.R. 3579, the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act of 2003.

The Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act of 2003 would provide greater regulatory flexibility for credit unions, make changes in federal law with respect to credit union member business lending and modernize credit union capital requirements by including risk assets in net worth ratios.

[Washington, D.C.] " Today, the House passed (248-179) an amendment by Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA) to require open competitive bidding on all contracts to build oil infrastructure in Iraq. Every Democrat, and 47 Republicans voted for the amendment drafted in response to controversial contracts awarded to major Bush contributors, especially Halliburton.

The vote surprised most observers as it is rare that the Republican-dominated House passes legislation so clearly aimed at the White House.

[Washington, D.C.] " Congressman Brad Sherman announced today that the House of Representatives passed a bill providing $100,000 for care management and expansion of the intergenerational daycare program at ONEgeneration in Van Nuys, formerly known as ONE.

"ONEgenerations intergenerational daycare is a model program that provides services to both young children and seniors," said Sherman. "Its a model that is working, and waiting lists for the program grow daily. I am pleased that my colleagues supported my request and this important Valley project," he said.
