Washington, D.C. - The House Steering and Policy Committee on Thursday appointed Congressman Brad Sherman to a seat on the House Judiciary Committee.

œThe Judiciary Committee is an important forum for issues critically important to the motion picture, television and music industries, which are leading players in the San Fernando Valley economy, Sherman said.

When Americans called for common-sense proposals to improve the everyday lives of all Americans, we put forward an agenda that addressed critical economic, health care, and educational concerns of ordinary families. We offered a new direction for America.

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Census Bureau has completed a first-ever report on the San Fernando Valley using data from its American Community Survey.

Prepared at the request of Congressman Brad Sherman and Los Angeles County, the report will help community organizations, businesses and government leaders make better-informed decisions affecting the Valleys future.

San Fernando Valley residents on average are better off, better educated, younger, and spend more of their income on their homes, according to newly-compiled Census Bureau data that I requested will help businesses, community organizations and all levels of government make better-informed decisions to shape the Valleys future.

WASHINGTON - San Fernando Valley residents on average are better off, better educated, younger, and spend more of their income on their homes, according to Census Bureau data provided to Congressman Brad Sherman.

The median household income in most of the Valley is $49,612, an amount that is $3,286 more than the national figure, according to the new report. The Valley figure also is greater than the median household income for Los Angeles County ($48,248) and the City of Los Angeles ($42,667).

In the aftermath of scandals at Enron and other companies, Congress four years ago passed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. I voted for the law which made many improvements to corporate governance and accounting. It strengthened investor protections. It made companies more accountable. It gave law enforcement new tools to fight corporate fraud.

Former UCLA basketball coach and long-time Valley resident John Wooden is a living legend whose record-smashing accomplishments on the basketball court and inspirational leadership throughout his life have won him many accolades.

He mastered what he called, in the title of one of his many books, the Pyramid of Success. He also mastered what he considered the two most important things in his life; a long and loving marriage to his wife, Nell, and a deep devotion to his faith.

RESEDA - Coach John Wooden was honored Saturday, his 96th birthday, at a ceremony formally naming the Reseda post office after the sports legend and long-time San Fernando Valley resident.
