[Washington, D.C.] President Bush signed into law H.R. 5340, introduced by Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks), which names the post office at 5805 White Oak Avenue in Encino the "Francis Dayle ˜Chick Hearn Post Office" in honor of the legendary Los Angeles Lakers announcer.
"Chick Hearn was one of the most beloved individuals in the Los Angeles area. He meant so much to millions of Lakers fans and has made an everlasting contribution to sports broadcasting," Sherman said.
This session he co-sponsored the FDA Tobacco Jurisdiction Act of 2001 (HR 1043), and the FDA Tobacco Authority Amendments Act (HR 1097). Both proposals would permit the Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products as drugs.
"With the help of my staff, I have been analyzing the views of Valley resident and I wanted to share some of the results.
These funds are needed to protect crucial lands from development. The amount approved by the House is more than twice the $1 million Congress appropriated for 2002 for the Santa Monica Mountains.
