SAN FERNANDO VALLEY — Today, Brad Sherman (CA-30) and Congressmen Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) announced more than $196 million in emergency funding for colleges and universities in the San Fernando Valley under the American Rescue Plan. The funding will help local institutions cope with the severe financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and continue serving their students safely.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks), reintroduced the Peace and Tolerance in Palestinian Education Act to require the Secretary of State to submit a report to Congress reviewing textbooks produced by the Palestinian Authority (PA). There are concerns that such textbooks include language and imagery that encourage violence and hatred toward other nations and ethnic groups. Such content is particularly concerning given the use of such materials in educational settings for children as young as primary school age.

I have been informed that a series of anti-Semitic flyers have been discovered in the West Valley area of the San Fernando Valley.

The flyers attempt to equate the Jewish Star with the Swastika and are filled with other vulgar, anti-Semitic language.

I know that Valley residents of all faiths condemn this hateful act and those that are responsible for disseminating these flyers around the Valley. Whether in our community, across the nation, or around the world, these types of hateful, anti-Semitic sentiments have no place in modern society.

Washington, D.C. – In a precedent-setting move, the U.S. Department of Education has employed the U.S. State Department's definition of anti-Semitism to enforce Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. This is a milestone in an eight-year effort to protect Jewish college students from anti-Semitism masquerading as legitimate criticism of the Israeli government.

Washington DC - Today the University of California Regents released its Final Report of the Regents Working Group on Principles Against Intolerance.

“I am pleased to see that the final report explicitly condemns anti‐Semitism and anti‐Zionism. This is a significant victory for Jewish students who have faced multiple, unsettling incidents involving anti-Semitic epithets, slurs, obscenities, and even physical violence.

Washington DC - Each year, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the 30th Congressional District.
