Improving Veteran Healthcare
By Congressman Brad Sherman
While partisan rancor has prevented Congress from passing important national legislation, I have worked hard to fight for issues of concern to Valley residents. I would like to update you on just a few of my most recent priorities which include improving Valley transportation, preserving our local environment, maintaining Valley home prices, and protecting consumer privacy.

Time Warner Cable bought the rights to telecast Dodgers games throughout the Los Angeles area.
Everyone agrees that the Dodgers games should be available on DirecTV, and other cable and satellite
systems that are following DirecTV's lead.
But the companies can't agree over how much Time Warner Cable should be paid. This dispute has
already cost Dodgers fans in most of the Southland the chance to watch their team for well over half the
season.

At a time when 70 percent of working-age Americans with disabilities are outside the workforce and more than 9 million working-age Americans with disabilities are living on government benefits, I was proud to join the majority of the U.S. House of Representatives in passing bipartisan, bicameral legislation to increase opportunities for people with disabilities by reauthorizing federal investment in disability related workforce training, employment, independent living and research programs.
Last month, LA County Metro and Caltrans announced the opening of the 10-mile, northbound carpool lane on the 405 Freeway. After five years of construction, this milestone represents a major achievement in the $1 billion-plus endeavor to improve the 405 through the Sepulveda Pass. Los Angeles residents are long overdue for traffic improvements, and this carpool lane will relieve some of the busiest traffic through the Sepulveda Pass that links the San Fernando Valley to the Westside.
If Congress does not pass a spending bill (either a continuing resolution or appropriations bill) by September 30th, there will be a "federal shutdown" on the morning of October 1st. The purpose of this email is to provide you with practical advice. If you're interested in charges and counter-charges as to who is at fault in this impasse just turn on any cable news television show.
For nearly 16 years I have been fighting for working families in the Valley. I have worked to bring jobs to our community, and to make sure that those who already have jobs receive all the healthcare and benefits to which they are entitled – but there is much work yet to be done.
