[Washington, D.C.] Congressman Brad Sherman brought his effort to improve education in the Valley before the House Appropriations Committee's Subcommittee on Labor, Health, Human Services, and Education.

Shermans testimony focused on two valley projects: HighTechHigh, the first school of its kind in Los Angeles to incorporate cutting edge technology training into secondary education, and the Center for Adaptive Aquatic Therapy, a nationally-recognized adapted aquatic therapy research program at the California State University, Northridge (CSUN).

[Washington, D.C.] " Congressman Brad Sherman joined with Congressman Sam Farr and others in introducing legislation, H.R. 955, to preserve the National Organic Standard and repeal Section 771 of the 2003 Omnibus Appropriations Bill.

The National Organic Standard, which ensures that an organic product is cultivated by a certified process and not affected by pesticides, chemicals or special growth hormones, was placed in jeopardy when Republican Leaders in the House of Representatives snuck a special provision into a 3,000 page appropriations bill.

[Washington, D.C.] – Congressman Brad Sherman announced eight hundred thousand dollars in combined federal funds to teach entertainment technology in Valley schools. The funds are directed at HighTechHigh, a nonprofit organization focusing on providing Valley students with real world technological skills and a college preparatory curriculum, and an entertainment engineering technology program at California State University at Northridge (CSUN).

[Washington, D.C.] – Congressman Brad Sherman today announced that one million dollars for land acquisition in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area was included in the Omnibus Appropriations Bill just passed by Congress.

"The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is a priceless natural treasure and these funds are needed to protect crucial lands from development," said Sherman. "This bill has passed the Senate and is sure to be signed by the President within days, so we will get these funds."

[Washington, D.C.] – Congressman Brad Sherman announced today that the House of Representatives passed $90,000 for the intergenerational daycare program at ONEgeneration in Van Nuys.

"ONEgeneration’s intergenerational daycare is a model program that provides services to both young children and seniors," said Sherman. "It’s a model that is working and waiting lists for the program grow daily. I am pleased that my colleagues supported my request and this important Valley project," said Sherman.

[Washington, D.C.] – Congressman Brad Sherman announced today that the House of Representatives passed $500,000 for a ‘Park and Ride’ facility in Tarzana. The most likely site for the Park and Ride facility will be at Oxnard Blvd. and Reseda Blvd. adjacent to the East-West Valley Transitway.

Sherman’s request was included in the Omnibus Appropriations bill, which will determine federal spending for the remainder of the fiscal year, which ends September 30, 2003.
