Washington, D.C. - Congressman Brad Sherman, the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Asia, announced that on October 22^nd at 10 a.m., the Subcommittee will soon hold a hearing on "Human Rights in South Asia."

Washington, DC-Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, and Congresswoman Ann Wagner(R-MO) introduced the Allowing for the Safe Return of Rohingyas to Burma Act of 2019 on September 18^th. This legislation sends a strong message to the Burmese government that it needs to create the necessary conditions for the Rohingya to safely and voluntarily return to their homes.

Washington, DC- On Friday, August 30^th, Congressman Brad Sherman, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation, and Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO) introduced H.Res. 543, a resolution expressing support for the people of Hong Kong in their demonstration efforts. Congressmen Gerald Connolly (D-VA) and Ted Yoho (R-FL), Ranking Member of the Asia Subcommittee, joined Reps. Sherman and Wagner in introducing the resolution.

Sherman Oaks, CA – The U.S. Secretary of Energy, Rick Perry, visited the Santa Susana Field Lab today. During a Congressional hearing in June of this year, Congressman Brad Sherman secured a commitment from the Secretary that he would personally visit the contaminated site.

"I am pleased Secretary Perry went through with the commitment he made to me this summer," said Sherman.

Congressman Brad Sherman, the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Asia, announced that the Subcommittee will soon hold a hearing on "Human Rights in South Asia."

"We have invited Acting Assistant Secretary Alice Wells, who oversees State Department policy towards South Asia, Sam Brownback, the Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom, and other State Department officials, and we seek to accommodate their schedules. We also expect to hear from private human rights activists on the issues," said Congressman Sherman.

Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-30) and Congressman Ted Yoho (FL-03), the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific and Nonproliferation, today expressed support for the Hong Kong people and urged China not to intervene and forcibly suppress the protests.

Sherman Oaks –Congressman Sherman condemned the vandalism that targeted the Hebrew Discovery Center in Woodland Hills and calls on law enforcement to find those responsible.

On the morning of July 14^th, vandals splattered white paint over the synagogue entrance before fleeing the site. The American Jewish Committee (AJC) of Los Angeles alerted community members of the vandalism.

"This is a hate crime," Sherman said, "We have seen an increase around the country in anti-Semitic incidents, and those responsible should be brought to justice and be fully prosecuted."
