Congressman Brad Sherman, the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Asia, announced that the Subcommittee will soon hold a hearing on "Human Rights in South Asia."

"We have invited Acting Assistant Secretary Alice Wells, who oversees State Department policy towards South Asia, Sam Brownback, the Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom, and other State Department officials, and we seek to accommodate their schedules. We also expect to hear from private human rights activists on the issues," said Congressman Sherman.

Washington, DC – The House passed Congressman Brad Sherman's amendment that punishes Russia for its meddling in U.S. elections. The amendment provides serious sanctions on the Russian state by prohibiting U.S. investors from buying Russian government debt. It also provides a mechanism for removing these sanctions in the future if the Administration and Congress both determine that Russia did not interfere in our next election.

Washington, DC – Today the House of Representatives passed an amendment, proposed by Congressman Sherman, which blocks the United States from selling nuclear power equipment to Saudi Arabia without strong safeguards to prevent Riyadh from building nuclear weapons. The House adopted the language as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, which is expected to pass the House on Friday.

Washington, DC – Congressman Sherman secured significant nonproliferation commitments from Energy Secretary Rick Perry today at a hearing of the House Committee on Science, Technology, and Space.

In response to a question from Congressman Sherman, Secretary Perry said that the United States would not enter into a civilian nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia unless Saudi signs the Additional Protocol.
