Washington, D.C. – Today the House passed legislation that included the Rim of the Valley Corridor Preservation Act. Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) joined the sponsor of this bill, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA), and others in introducing this legislation in March of last year to requirethe National Park Service (NPS) to expand the boundaries of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to include the area known as the Rim of the Valley Corridor.
Sherman Oaks, CA – Sunday, November 10th will mark the 41st anniversary of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Over the years, Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) has secured over $20 million to acquire and preserve critical open space and complete the 65-mile Backbone Trail.
Today, Congressman Sherman, a frequent recipient of the National Park Conservation Association's Friend of the National Parks Award, is pushing for the expansion of the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area to include the Rim of the Valley Corridor.

Washington, DC – In an appearance today before the House Committee on Science, Secretary of Energy Rick Perry agreed to visit the contaminated Santa Susana Field Lab at the request of Congressman Brad Sherman. Secretary Perry acknowledged the slow response and lack of progress in cleaning up the site.
Sherman Oaks, CA – Today, Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will conduct a full Environmental Assessment of new flight routes over the San Fernando Valley.
Last year, Congressman Sherman directed the FAA to complete a full environmental review process that evaluates several alternatives for possible departure routes to address the immediate noise impacting Valley communities.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sherman announced a 15 day extension for those affected by the Woolsey Fire to register for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Residents of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties who suffered losses from the fire now have until February 15th to register with FEMA in order to be considered eligible for several disaster assistance programs. This extension also applies to low-interest disaster loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Energy has released its Final Environmental Impact Statement for cleanup of its portion of the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL) site, located in Ventura County, California. The report recommends a lesser soil cleanup standard than established in the 2010 Administrative Order on Consent (AOC) that was entered into with the State of California.
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) announced ways that those affected by the Woolsey Fire can begin the process of recovering and rebuilding. Sherman, along with Congresswoman Julia Brownley, and Congressman Ted Lieu, sent a letter to the President urging him to approve the disaster declaration first requested by Governor Jerry Brown and make these funds available to fire survivors.
