Washington, D.C. -- "I welcome the permanent cessation of hostilities in Ethiopia. When millions have suffered unspeakable atrocities, any opportunity for peace is one that cannot be squandered. Most importantly, unrestricted humanitarian aid must enter Tigray immediately.

I am however deeply concerned about reports of ongoing shelling in Tigray since the immediate cessation of hostilities was announced. The peace agreement must be respected and all hostilities must end.

Newark, New Jersey -- The FBI's Newark office issued a stark warning on November 3rd as it announced it had received "credible information" about a nonspecific but widescale threat to synagogues in New Jersey. The FBI described the threat, shared by the bureau's Newark office on Twitter, as "broad" and was issued in "an abundance of caution."

"We ask at this time that you take all security precautions to protect your community and facility," FBI Newark tweeted in part. "We shall share more information as soon as we can. Stay alert. In case of emergency call police."

Los Angeles, CA -- The Los Angeles City Council unanimously passed a resolution endorsing the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism.

"I'm glad to see today the LA City Council voted unanimously to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism," said Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA). "This is the same definition I pushed the U.S. Department of Education to use to enforce Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to protect Jewish students, as well as the one long used by the U.S. State Department."

I am outraged and disappointed by the decision of 14 student groups at the UC Berkeley School of Law to pass a bylaw that would effectively end Jewish participation in their organizations. This new bylaw, which bans the participation of speakers that "support Zionism", would prevent figures such as President Biden or Berkeley Law's own Dean Erwin Chemerinsky from speaking at these events simply because they believe that Israel has a right to exist.

On this day in 2018, a man radicalized by antisemitic conspiracy theories online walked into Pittsburgh's Tree of Life synagogue and opened fire, murdering 11 worshippers while shouting "all Jews must die."
